Al Currie

I am Rob, Son of Al and Lou. Mom asked me to send an email to the group on their status in case anyone is wondering. You may know that they were on an Alaska cruise and all went well until they were working their way back home. While in San Diego Dad was having chest pains and he called his Doctor here. The Dr. recommended he go to emergency and be checked out. Without going into too much detail, they discovered that the majority of the arteries feeding oxygen to his heart wern't doing anything. Only one that he had a stint put in years ago was working properly. They at first didn't think there was a whole lot that they could do there at the time and kept him on medical therapy to try to get more blood feeding his heart. On Monday last week they decided to put more stints in the non-working arteries. This was not too invasive of surgery meaning they didn't have to open him up, only go through the artery in his leg. On Friday they let him go back to the hotel with Mom and relax out of the hospital environment. He will go back for a post checkup on Monday the 5th and if everything looks okay they want him to stay a couple more days to make sure everything "took". Hopefullt to be sent home around Friday. I have spoken to him a number of times and he sounds quite normal. Sitting up watching football etc. Everyone there seems very optomistic and we expect he will be climbing more glaciers soon!

I'm sure Mom will be in touch as soon as things get back to more normal. Please keep them in your prayers. Thank You....Rob Currie

Jason Williams

My dear Florida friends, I have made it to 96 years and have a slight setback with fluid in my right lung but I’m doing well following drainage. I will see my lung doctor Sept.14 and am hoping for a good report.—Jason Williams.
(Jason was perhaps the oldest student in the SeniorNet classes at the age of 92, and is still managing his email. View earlier posts by entering Jason in the blog search box.)

Ceil Lortz

Ceil Lortz, an original member of the Senior Programs at USF passed away August 24 at Arden Court assisted living. In June, the WOW group celebrated her 91st birthday with a festive party. Ceil had been very active in the old Learning in Retirement program at USF and was a member of the CORE group, who would now be called office/program volunteers. She also served on the LIR Curriculum Committee and belonged to the LIR poetry group. Ceil was a charter member of "WOW" (Writers of Wisdom) who have been writing their Life Stories together since 1997. A self taught pianist, she was a member of a jazz band that played for senior centers and churches. Teaching math was her career but she also studied theater in Europe and poetry in England. A multi-talented lady, she will be missed.

There will be no family memorial or service in Florida so the WOW group will have our own memorial for Ceil on September 7. For information, call Charlie Delp or Marilyn Bartholomew. Her son and daughter and their families live in her home state of New York, where she will be laid to rest. Donations may be made to Lifepath Hospice, 3010 W. Azeele Street, Tampa, FL, 33609.

Charlotte Davis' grandson

Hi everyone - My 13 year old grandson, Devin, entered a mango cooking contest and was picked as one of the three finalists. They went to Los Angeles for the final competition and we found out yesterday that he was picked as the $500 winner. He loves to cook and we have spent lots of time in the kitchen.
His recipe is on line, if any of you might want to try it. It is called "Knock your socks off Mango delight". You can go to this site for his recipe:

Maxine Doyle

Max has been taken off all insubstantiality as she cannot take food.  Her son was with me today when  went to see her and she did seem to know him and me.  We both did receive a kiss from her which surprised me.
Please let our many friends know she is doing as well as possible under the condition she is in.  -- Bill Doyle via Jo Ann Sanderson

Cecelia Vance

Cecelia Vance recently had a gall bladder operation at St Joseph's Hospital and was recovering well.  She was scheduled to help with registration for the OLLI Volunteer Appreciation event on July 13, but instead developed a fever that required her to return to the hospital.  As of today, her fever is gone and she is recuperating at home. Typical of Cecelia, she even apologized for letting us down.

I'm sure she would welcome your emails of concern. --Marilyn Bartholomew
